2010 T-Ten North American Championship
Day 1 Report by Nick Turney
Sailing with Jim Ward on Wine Squall
Day 1 is in the books. 4 races where sailed today. I am sailing with Jim ward on Wine Squall. We had a rough day, but great conditions. 10-15 building all day. Mike Eckstein had great day to take the lead after day 1. Tomorrows forecast looks more of the same. Results are on the website.
Race 1 and 2 were all about the current. You had to get right up wind to get into the current. Race 3 and 4 the breeze built enough to compensate for the current on right side and evened out the race course.
Team Demon Rum was very fast and proved to be very smart. Congrats to them for an awesome day 1!
Tips for the day, flat water and big breeze we felt more traveler and les sheet proved to be faster. Be aggressive with backstay on and off from puff to lull. Constant communication between skipper and trimmers was key. We never cleated the traveler and had constant communication about helm and boat speed. Team Demon Rum had the same game plan.
Tomorrow looks great with 9-17 out of the west northwest.
Thanks,
Nick
